Intermediate Football Championship Group 2 Round 1

Glenfarne/Kilty 4-10 Allen Gaels 1-11

They say goals win games and this proved to be the case as Glenfarne/Kilty opened their Intermediate Championship campaign with a hard fought win over Allen Gaels. It was the Glenfarne/Kilty men’s ability to get goals at crucial stages of the game that proved the decisive factor in this closely fought contest. Allen Gaels second string are traditionally strong in this competition and they put a tremondous fighting performance but it was the Glenfarne/Kilty men's ability to seemingly open up the Allen Gaels defence at will that proved to be their downfall.

Glenfarne/Kilty opened the scoring on two minutes with a Michael Maguire free. Allen Gaels however had the perfect response when a well hit shot from Thomas Nolan was saved by Glenfarne/Kilty goalkeeper Daragh Keaney only for the ball to rebound off the unlucky John McManus and into the net. Glenfarne/Kilty responded to this setback two minutes later with a well taken point from Conor O’Rourke. Four minutes later they were in front when Shane McLoughlin brilliantly flicked the ball over the advancing Oisin Dolan and into the net. Straight away Glenfarne/Kilty goaled again through Dermot O’Rourke to put five points between the teams. For the next 10 minutes Glenfarne/Kilty completely dominated the game but could only add a further point to their tally from Shane McLoughlin. On Twenty minutes Patrick McManus pulled a point back for Allen Gaels and this was followed by points on twenty-six and twenty minutes from Donal Herron and Alan McKeon to cut the gap to three points. Just before half-time Michael Maguire pointed a free for Glenfarne/Kilty to leave four points between the teams at the break.

Glenfarne/Kilty started the second-half just as they finished the first with Michael Maguire pointing a free after a foul on Dermot O’Rourke. He followed this up three minutes later with a point from a forty-five. On eight minutes Thomas Nolan point for Allen Gaels and he followed it up three minutes later with another point as the Allen Gaels men enjoyed a period of dominance. On fourteen minutes Paul McGovern pointed from play for the Drumshanbo men and this was followed up a minute later by a point from Pascal Gillard to leave just two between the teams midway through the second half. On sixteen minutes Michael Maguire restored the Glenfarne/Kilty lead with a point from a free. This was quickly followed by a goal by substitute J.J McDermott to leave the Glenfarne/Kilty men six points to the good. Allen Gaels however responded with points from Paul McGovern and Patrick McManus to cut the gap to four points with ten minutes left. On twenty two minutes Fergal Clancy scored from play for Glenfarne/Kilty to increase their lead to five points but Donal Herron responded for Allen Gaels with a point from a free. J.J McDermott then restored Glenfarne’s five point advantage with a well taken point. Glenfarne/Kilty then put the game out of reach with a well worked goal from Joe Keaney on twenty-six minutes. Allen Gaels responded with a point from Thomas Nolan on twenty-eight minutes. Michael Maguire completed the scoring when he pointed in the last minute. With that referee Brian Mallon brought the game to an end.

The North Leitrim men will be happy with getting their campaign off to a winning start and had good performances from the impressive Dermot O’Rourke, Conor O’Rourke, Barry McDermott, Joe Keaney, Fergal Clancy and Shane McLoughlin. For Allen Gaels Michael McManus and Pascal Gillard at midfield, and forwards Alan McKeon, Thomas Nolan, Donal Herron and Patrick McManus were their best performers.

Division 5 League Final

Our Junior team have qualified for the Division 5 league final. This game against Sean O'Heslins will be played this Sunday at 2pm in Pairc Sean MacDiarmuida, Carrick-on-Shannon. We hope to see all our supporters out in big numbers for this game.

U-16 County Team

Well done to Niall Clancy who has been playing for the Leitrim U-16 team during the Fr. Manning Cup and Teb Webb Cup. Niall has lined out at right half forward in all the games so far.

Minor Championship

Our Minor team take on Kiltrubid on Friday evening in the second round of the Minor Championship. This game will take place in Kiltrubid at 7pm.

U-16 Training

U-16 training re-commences on this Wednesday evening in the park at 8pm. All players are asked to be in attendance. The championship is due to start on September 1st.

The Under 16 team take to the field in the final of the 9-a-side Under 16 League on Friday evening at 7pm.

Glenfarne Ladies
Glenfarne Ladies made their first appearance for many years in the Leitrim Ladies Football league when they took on Fenagh in Division Three on Sunday morning last. On this occasion the girls were beaten by Fenagh. It is great to see a Ladies team back wearing the Black and White. Best wishes to the girls and their manager Sean Clancy for the rest of the season.

Leitrim Minors
Well done to Fergal Clancy who is currently representing the club on the Leitrim Minor team. Fergal has played in the last two Connacht Minor League games which included an impressive win over a very good Mayo team. We wish Fergal and his colleagues on the Minor panel all the best for the coming year.

Sympathy
On Sunday morning last the Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher area was saddened to hear of the death of Seamus McDermott. Seamus was an active member of Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher GAA club and served the club both on the playing field and in numerous administrative positions over the years. Seamus devoted a lot of his time to underage football in Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher and this work, carried out with a great determination and commitment is now evident in the club's current crop of senior players. Seamus also served the club as Senior Team Manager and as a selector on many occasions. Seamus also served as club chairman on a number of occasions over the years with his last term coming to an end in January of 2004. He was also an ever-present spectator at all Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher’s matches both Senior and Junior where he took great joy in watching his four sons wear the Black and White with distinction. Seamus was an avid Leitrim supporter and rarely missed a match when his beloved county was in action. Seamus will be sadly missed by all of us who knew him and had the pleasure of working with him over the years. Gaelic Football and Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher GAA club has lost one of its finest servants. To his wife Bridie, daughter Denise and sons, David, Paul, Barry and J.J we express our deepest sympathy. May he rest in peace.

Dinner Dance
All roads led to Ballyshannon on Saturday night 28^th January for the clubs annual dinner dance. A crowd of over 120 was in attendance for what turned out to be a great night. The club’s annual awards were presented on the night with the winners as follows: Senior Player of the Year: Thomas McDermott, Junior Player of the Year: Sean McManus, Young Player of the Year: Conor O’Rourke. The club person of the year award went to treasurer, Dermot O’Rourke. The trophies for these awards were sponsored by D & S Concrete Ltd. Also a number of presentations were made to couples who got married since our last dinner dance. These gifts were sponsored by Philomena Burns. We also numerous spot prizes on the night. The sponsors of these included, Cllr. Michael Colreavy, Keenan’s Spar and Bridgestone. A big thank you to the management and staff of Dorian’s Hotel, Ballyshannon for the great service provided on the night. Also to John Farry and D.J Danny Feehily who provided the entertainment on the night. A big thank you also to our bus driver Vincey McGovern and his wife Ann who ensured everyone made it home safe and sound after a great night.

Annual Draw
Our Annual Draw took place at the afore mentioned Dinner Dance. Peter Canavan Visit
One of the greatest Gaelic Footballers of all time was in Glenfarne on Friday night last to present medals to a number of our successful underage teams. Peter Canavan presented medals to the 2005 U-16 9-a-side Championship winners, to the 2004 U-16 9-a-side League winners and to the 2004 U-14 9-a-side League winners. A great night was had by all who attended the function with the question and answers session at the beginning with Peter proving to be very popular with young and old alike. Thank you to everyone who helped organize the night especially those who had the Rainbow looking very well and to those who prepared the refreshments.

Dinner Dance
All roads lead to Dorian’s Hotel, Ballyshannon on Saturday night next, 28^th January 2006 for our Annual Dinner Dance. Tickets are available from all club officials and are priced at €25 per person. Medal Presentation/Peter Canavan Visit
Tyrone Star Peter Canavan will visit the area on Friday January 20th to present medals to our successful underage teams of 2005. The function will take place in the Rainbow Centre. The time of the event will be confirmed next week. All are welcome to attend.

Congratulations to our U-16 Team who have qualified for the 9 a-side Championship Final. The game is fixed for this Friday at 6pm in Drumshanbo against Annaduff. Senior League
We played our first game of the Division 2 Shield on Sunday last against Cloone in Glenfarne. After a hard fought encounter we were defeated on a score-line of 2-7 to 0-12. Our Junior team got their Division 6 league campaign off to a good start with a hard fought win over Ballinamore on Sunday morning last in Glenfarne. A strong first half performance saw Glenfarne/Kilty lead 0-7 to 0-2 at half-time. However two goals by Ballinamore mid-way through the second half left the result hanging in the balance until the very end with Glenfarne Kilty hanging on for a one point win at the final whistle. Thanks to everyone who supported our club social in the Rainbow. A great night was had be all. Tragedy
On New Years day the community of Glenfarne awoke to the horrific news that two of our young friends had been fatally injured in a traffic accident during the night. Adrian McSharry and Aidan Leonard had played football with St. Michaels N.S. and at all underage levels with Glenfarne/Kilty. Both lads excelled in all activities in which they participated. Adrian was a fantastic goalkeeper, and last year trained with the Leitrim U16’s. Adrian was also an accomplished drummer with his fellow musicians, Liam, Danny and Daniel.

Aidan was an excellent musician and he and his family provided many entertaining nights for many in the surrounding area. He was also an accomplished fisherman. He recently raised over €2000 for leukaemia by having his head shaved.

Words cannot express the sense of loss felt by the entire community. The club extends their sympathies to Seamus, Patricia and Yvonne and to Michael John, Theresa, Padraig, Michael, Brendan, Kevin and Claire. May they rest in peace.

We also wish fellow under-age player Liam Harkin, who was injured in the accident, a speedy recovery.

Adrian and Aidan were tragically killed in car accident outside the village of Glenfarne on Jan 1st 2005,

Adrian and Aidan, both 17, were members of our underage teams since they were aged 10, and played their part in winning numerous cups along the way.

Match Report

Mohill through to play off

Mohill qualified for the Masonite Senior One B league play offs when they defeated a defiant Glenfarne/Kilty in an exhilarating clash played in Glenfarne on Saturday evening last.

Mohill 1-10 Glenfarne/Kilty 0-8

Preceding this tie, Mohill were completely out of the play-off race, but with Bornacoola and Aughavas pulling off surprise wins at the weekend, Mohill needed a win to secure a late qualifying spot, however, they were made to fight for their victory as a depleted Glenfarne/Kilty pushed their counterparts to the very end.

Despite their exuberant pressure, Glenfarne/Kilty could simply not match Mohill for their sheer resourceful power and strength in attack, notching over the scores when required.

When Glenfarne/Kilty looking dangerous in attack, Mohill produced the ultimate goods on the 48th minute when Seamus McCrann scored a wonderful goal following superb interplay from his forward line. It was the score that effectively killed the game as a contest as Glenfarne/Kilty could not find the key to unlock the physical superiority of the Mohill defence to force a late comeback.

A long range point by Seamus Dillon commenced proceedings in the opening minute of play, however, it was Mohill who took control of proceedings after this chalking up four unanswered points from Peter Gaffney, three from placed balls and a Shane Canning score on the 8th minute.

A 14m Michael Maguire free was the only reply Glenfarne/Kilty had but this was subsequently matched by three more Mohill scores, two Peter Gaffney frees and a Shane Canning point from play leaving Mohill with a five point advantage at 7 points to two.

Glenfarne/Kilty did manage to produce a late rally before the break, finding loopholes in the Mohill defence to bring just a solitary point between the sides at the interval thanks to points from Dermot O’Rourke, two Michael Maguire points and Diarmaid Keaney with the scoreboard reading 7 points to six.

Mohill exploded into the second half, not allowing Glenfarne/Kilty to settle, chalking over four unanswered points, two placed balls from Peter Gaffney and a Philip McGuinness free and Seamus McCrann also finding the target on the 36th minute.

For the following ten minutes, both sides failed to find the accuracy to take the game and with Glenfarne/Kilty pressing their counterparts, Mohill produced a spectacular passage of play in attack resulting in McCrann rocking the corner net on the 48th minute, leaving them with a seven point advantage and while Glenfarne/Kilty pressed forward all they could settle with was two consolation points from Dermot O’Rourke and Michael Maguire.

Senior Match
On Saturday evening 20th September we played Aughavas in Division 1B of the Masonite Senior League. After a close and hard fought Aughavas ran out winners on a scoreline of 0-18 to 1-12. Best wishes go to two Aughavas players who were forced off due to injuries in the course of the game. We wish both players speedy recovery. Thanks to Philomena and staff of Burns Bar for the after match refreshments.

U-12 Final
Hard luck to our U-12 team who were beaten in the 9-aside league final on Saturday last in Carrick-on-Shannon. After a close game St. Osnatts ran out winners by 2 points to claim their first every underage trophy. Congratultaions go to St.Osnatts on this achievement. Well done to our mentors and players for once again guiding the club to another underage final. We are sure their day will come.

Match Report

Controversial win for Bors

Bornacoola maintained their unbeaten Masonite Senior One B League run when Glenfarne/Kilty were disallowed an equalising goal in injury time in what was an exhilerating clash played in slippery conditions in Glenfarne on Saturday evening last.

Glenfarne/Kilty 0-8 Bornacoola 0-11

A long range 40m Michael Maguire free deemed too powerful for keeper Feargal McGill to hold forcing him over the line, however, despite the certainty of umpires and Glenfarne/Kilty players, referee Padraig Flynn disallowed the goal securing the Bors three point advantage.

On the balance of play a draw would have been the fairest result, both enjoyed respective spells of dominance, however, it was Bornacoolas sharper edge in front of the posts that ensured their superiority in this hard fought encounter.

Unlike their recent Championship tie, in which the Bors completely tore the north leitirm men apart, Glenfarne/Kilty played with the type of fight and commitment that was absent from their lacklustre performances all year, excelling pressure to the very end while Bornacoola now looked destined for a play-off position.

Brian Conroy and JJ McDermott exchanged points in the opening four minutes after which Mark McCloskey fisted attempt at goal from a long range Michael Duignan ball bounced over the crossbar.

Glenfarne/Kilty took the lead on the 11th minute following points from Michael Maguire and Barry McDermott but it was a short lived lead as the Bors started winning the breaks at midfield and converted their possession well into valuable scores with Niall Mc Gowan, Mark McCloskey, Michael Duignan and Pat Farrell all finding the target securing a three point advantage.

Living of scraps, Glenfarne/Kilty crawled back into contention and after a tenacious pieve of play by the fowards Michael Maguire scored from the rigt wing leaving the score at the resumption at 0-6 to 0-4.

The Bors got off to an explosive start in the second half stretching their lead by five minutes by the 37th minute with a Philip Howard point and two Pat Farrell frees, Glenfarne/Kilty failing to find the momentum or possession to re-ignite their challenge and their woes worsened when centre-back John McManus was forced to retire with a broken thumb following a collision.

With the resulting free, Maguire scored from 40m, however, a minute later the Bors stamped their authority on the tie with a Trevor Howard point a minute later.

Reluctant to sucumb to their superiority, Glenfarne/Kilty began to find loopholes in the Bor defence, maintaining them in their own back-line, they reduced the deficit to two points by the 57th minute thanks to three Michael Maguire points, two from placed balls.

At the end of normal time, Philip Howard regained the Bors comfortable advantage, but it was a lead that Glenfarne/Kilty looked to have snatched two minutes later when Maguire pumped a powerful 40m free into a crowded goalmouth, McGill appeared to have crossed the line, but depite their pleas, Rreferee Padraig Flynn was determined in his decision, leaving Bors eventual three point winners.

New Arrivals
Congratulations go to former player Mark Cullen and his wife Mary on the birth of a baby daughter over the weekend. Also congratulations to another former player Sean D'arcy and his wife Chris on the birth of a baby son at the weekend. Congratulations also go to Glencar/Manor goalkeeper Sean Boylan and his wife Geraldine, a native of Glenfarne on the birth of a baby daughter recently. We wish the new arrivals and their families all the happiness and success the future is sure to bring.

Best Wishes
Best wishes go to club player Padraig Dillon who has embarked on a move to USA in recent weeks. Padraig will be sorely missed by his teammates as he is one of the best defenders in the county.

Well Done
Well done to Manorhamilton man Francis Boylan on landing the job as the presenter of the Den on Network 2. This is a great achievement by Francis who started the job on Monday 8th September and by all accounts done a fantastic job. Francis regularly DJ'd at a number of our club Discos. Everyone in the club wish Francis the very best in the job and in the rest of his career.

Senior League
There is a senior League game this Saturday evening in the park in Glenfarne at 7pm against Bornacoola. We hope to see a good crowd in the park for this game.

All Ireland Hurling Tickets
Any club members interested in acquiring a ticket for the hurling final are asked to contact club Secetary Maura McGourty by this Friday evening. Members are reminded as with the tickets for the football final they must be used by them member themselves or in the case of having a family membership, by a member of their family.

Club Crest Competition
Just to let all the kids who entered the club crest competition know we haven't forgotten about them and we will be announcing a winner in the coming weeks. The logos are currently with a graphic designer and he is in the process of going over the designs and producing the new crest.

Our Seniors travelled to Blacklion on Sunday to take on the home team in the final of the tournament. On this occasion we were victorious on a scoreline of 3-8 to 0-11. A big thank you to Shannon Gaels for inviting us to play on Sunday and to the Bush Bar, Blacklion for the refreshments provided after the game. Junior B Championship Quarter Final

Dromahair 2-13 Glenfarne/Kilty 1-9

Despite what the final scoreline suggests, this was a more evenly contested north leitrim derby with Dromahair only securing victory in the last quarter with an unanswerable scoring rally.

With nothing seperating the sides for a majority of this tie, it was only in the 40th minute with a Dromahair penalty that they gained parity in this tie and despite pressure from Glenfarne/Kilty they simply did not possess the resources to respond.

It was man of the match Christopher McGowan who commenced proceedings with a 30m free in the opeing two minutes, however, Glenfarne/Kilty took an unexpected lead when wing back Daniel Gallagher surged upfield to intercept a Francis Dillon 40m free with Gallaghers resulting shot from 30m deceiving keeper Stephen O'Hara slipping to the back of the net.

Dromahair quickly responded with points from Patrick McKenna and Christopher McGowan, however once again Glenfarne/Kilty regained their lead with a clinical Francis Dillon point on the first quarter.

For the following thirteen minutes it was Dromahair who completely took control, however for all their eleven attacking movements amazingly they only converted two from Kieran Torsney and Aidan Rooney, chances that could have wrapped the game that early, instead they allowed Glenfarne/Kilty back into the tie with Conor O'Rourke finding the target on the 23rd minute.

Two Christoher McGowan points streched that lead in the following five minutes but a Francis Dillon 14m free just left a point in Dromahairs favour at the interval (1-3 to 0-7).

Just minutes after the resumption, Glenfarne/Kilty regained a slender lead through points from Bartley Clancy and another Dillon free but it was a short lived revival when Dromahair were awarded a penalty for a foot block infringement to which the pinnacle Christoher McGowan duly converted.

That proved a vital score as despite exerting pressure, Glenfarne/Kilty could simply not find the possession to retaliate and despite a responding score from Francis Dillon, Dromahair earned a six point lead by the third quarter thanks to points from Christopher McGowan(0-3), Aidan Rooney,Kieran Torsney and Patrick Rooney.

Glenfarne/Kilty reduced that deficit with a points from Bartley Clancy and Francis Dillon however it was too late to start a comeback rally and a late point from Oliver Conlan and a goal from Patrick McKenna whos shot from 35m blasted the roof of the net to secure them a hard fought passage to the semi-final.

On Sunday last our senior team traveled to Manorhamilton to take on the home side in the Masonite Senior League Division 1B. Unfortunately on this occasion Glencar/Manor ran out winners on a scoreline of 4-7 to 0-9.

On Saturday evening our Senior team took on Carrigallen in Round 3 of the Masonite Senior League. Unfortunately on this occasion we were beaten on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-11. U-16
Our U-16 team travelled to Mohill on Monday to take on the home team in a crucial league game. Unfortunaley we were beaten on a scoreline of 1-15 to 3-5. Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher 4-12 Gortlettragh 0-1

A great all round team performance saw Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher easily over come Gortlettragh in Glenfarne on Sunday morning last. Despite getting off to a slow start the Glenfarne/Kilty eventually found their rythm and led by 2-6 to 0-2 with the goals coming from Shane McLoughlin and Jonathon Keaney. The second half was more of the same with Glenfarne/Kilty dominating the exchanges and further goals from Fergal Clancy and Shane McLoughlin. This combined with some fine point scoring and good football ensured Glenfarne/Kilty ran out comfortable winners.

In goals for Glenfarne/Kilty, Adrian McSharry was his usual assured self, the full back line was superbly marshelled by Liam Harkin and Aidan Leonard. The half back line of Francis Keaney , Cathal McMorrow and John Sherrin never gane the Gortlettragh forwards time or space to pose any threat. At Midfield Ciaran Clancy and Jonathon Keaney dominated and were the launching pad for many of Glenfarne/Kilty's attacks. The half forward line of Shane McLoughlin, Fergal Clancy and Padraig Sweeney gave the Gortlettragh defence a torrid time with their constant movement and running while inside them Diarmuid Clancy and Noel McLoughlin in the full forward line constantly threaten the Gortlettragh goal.

On Saturday evening last our Junior team travelled to Gortlettragh to play the home team in the opening round of the Masonite Junior League Division 4. On a beatuiful evening for football Glenfarne/Kilty secured two league points with a hard fought 7 point victory over a determined home side.

A goal from Daniel Gallagher late in the first half and another from Man of the Match Daragh Keaney just after half time were the decisive scores in this game. Keaney finished the game with a total of 1-6.

Best for Glenfarne/Kilty were Gerry McMorrow, Donnacha Keaney, Barry McDermott, Daragh Keaney and J.J. McDermott.

Best for Gortlettragh were veterans Tommie Reilly before he departed the play injured, Enda Colreavey and Frank Niblock.

Minor Final
Our Minor team were beaten by Aughnasheelin on a scoreline 3-7 to 2-8 in the final of the 9-aside league on last Thursday night. In a game that could have gone either way Glenfarne/Kilty gave a brilliant performance against a team containing 2 members of the current county minor panel. Glenfarne/Kilty's young stars proved once again that they are a match for best footballers in the county and were unluck not to add to the list of underage honours acquired in the last number of years. Keep up the training and hard work lads and you day will definitely come.

We wish David McDermott who was injured during the game on Sunday a full and speedy recovery to full fittness in the very near future. Match Report - Senior Game v Cloone

Cloone misses injury time winner

Glenfarne/Kilty 1-6 Cloone 0-9

An injury time free-kick miss by Cloone cost them two opening Masonite Senior League points as they shared the spoils with Glenfarne/Kilty in a scrappy encounter played in St.Mary's park, Glenfarne on Sunday afternoon last.

On the balance of play, a draw was the fairest result and thus it was almost poetic justice that Cloone's Damian O'Donnell missed an injury time free that would have guaranteed a late victory. Typical of opening league games, both sides were guilty of some wayward shooting, misplaced passes and uneconomical possession and hence a point apiece is the fairest outcome from such a scrappy encounter.

Glenfarne/Kilty were explosive in the opening minutes of play with a Michael Maguire 35m free and a Barry McDermott point, however their challenge quickly faded as Cloone, once settled, maintained their opponents in their own half, exerting severe pressure however unfruitful they were with such possession, missing three consecutive chances.

It was the ninth minute before Cloone converted this possession into scores with a Mickey Lohan point from play and a Damian O'Donnell 30m free and indeed Cloone missed a chance to gain parity in this deadlocked tie on the 13th minute with a Seamus Maguire shot awkwardly rebounding of the upper body of keeper Conor O'Rourke.

Cloone continued their period of dominance with a Michael Brennan point from play before both sides engaged in a ten minute spell of play that was dictated by a comic of errors and a litany of missed scoreable chances and it was just at the interval that a Damian O'Donnell point gave Cloone a slender two point advantage.

Fortunately, the second half was a more productive display with its increased tempo and attacking movements. This time it was Cloone that ignited following the resumption with a Damian O'Donnell point stretching their lead, however, this was subsequently matched with a 14m Michael Maguire free.

Two Cloone points in the following five minutes from James Lohan and a Damian O'Donnell 30m free gave them a four point advantage, however unfortunately play was forced to cease for six minutes as Gerard Moran suffered from suspected broken ribs.

Once restarted, it was Glenfarne/Kilty who took advantage of a disorganized Cloone set up as Enda Gallagher literally tore their defence asunder in a superb solo run only for his goal attempt to be scraped of the line in a goal mouth scramble and somehow three consecutive attempts were also subsequently saved before the ball blasted past the upright.

That was all the ammunition that Glenfarne/Kilty required to crawl their way back into contention, which was marked with a Michael Maguire 30m free however Cloone were not going to relinquish their lead so easily, and Seamus Maguire replied with an accurate point from the right wing.

Glenfarne/Kilty continued to exert pressure however and their efforts were rewarded when a directed Michael Maguire pass from the wing found the hands of Darragh Keaney however he was fouled in the square and Joe Keany made no mistake in slotting the resulting penalty to the corner netting leaving the score level at 1-5 to 0-8.

James Lohan edged Cloone ahead on the 28th minute but a Darragh Keaney point leveled matters once again and as the games came into its closing minutes Cloone were awarded an injury time free however from 21m Damian O'Donnell failed to convert with both sides deservedly taking a point apiece from this lackluster affair.

Glenfarne GAA 1910- 1950

Football is said to have first appeared in Glenfarne around 1910. It is believed to have been introduced to Glenfarne by a member of a McDermott family from Cornacloy upon their return from college in Ballyhaise. However football activity in North Leitrim around 1910 was sporadic, however it is certain that Glenfarne fielded a Hurling team in a match against Kinlough in 1914. However it appears this was the only attempt at Hurling in Glenfarne.

The rise in the number of clubs in the North of the County resulted in a North Leitrim Board been formed in 1917. However this board never became active and it was not until 1925 that another effort was made to revive football in North Leitrim. A new board was formed and the following teams affiliated: Glenfarne, Manorhamilton, Duagh, Belleck, Garrison, Dromahaire, Kiltyclogher and Ballyshannon. (Kiltyclogher and Duagh are now part of the Glenfarne catchment area). In 1926 Glenfarne emerged from this Group to contest the County final against the South Leitrim Group winners. The final was postponed until 1927. Unfortunately Glenfarne were defeated on this occasion by Annaduff.

By 1932 Duagh had now become part of the Glenfarne set-up. In this year Glenfarne won the first ever North Leitrim Junior Championship and qualified for the County Final against the South Leitrim winners Bornacoola. Although beaten on this occasion this was the beginning of a glorious decade for Glenfarne. In 1934 Glenfarne defeated Ballinaglera by a single point in the North Leitrim Junior Championship and emerged to play Carrigallen in the County Final. Played in Glenfarne and roared on by the home crowd Glenfarne won on a score line of 1-6 to 0-0 to bring a first ever county title to a North Leitrim club.

In 1936 Glenfarne defeated Drumkeerin in the North Leitrim final and qualified once again to play Carrick-on-Shannon in the County Final. Glenfarne emerged as Comprehensive winners on a score line of 3-10 to 2-2.

This success continued in 1937. Glenfarne defeated Manorhamilton in the North Leitrim Final and defeated Gorvagh in the county final. In 1938 Blacklion defeated Glenfarne in the North Leitrim Final. In 1939 a North Leitrim Intermediate League was formed for new or weaker teams. Glenfarne could not be classified as either but however did enter a second team under the name of Lacoon managed by John Rooney of Mullawn Creamery. This Lacoon side emerged as the first winners of the North Leitrim Intermediate League in 1939 thus bring the curtain down on a decade which saw Glenfarne dominate North Leitrim football.

The 1940's saw a swing in the balance of power in the North away from Glenfarne and Blacklion emerge as the dominate force. However Glenfarne began the decade like they ended the previous by once again defeating Blacklion in the North Leitrim Final and emerging to play Ballinamore in the 1940 County final. This game was delayed until March 1941 but Glenfarne once again crowned champions on a score line of 2-7 to 0-1. From then until 1946 Blacklion were to dominate the North Leitrim Championship. However in 1947 Glenfarne emerged to contest the County final where they defeated Gorvagh. This was to be Glenfarne's Last County title for twelve years but they did win the 1948 and 1949 North Leitrim Junior Championship closing a glorious chapter in Glenfarne Football.

Training
Training takes place on Wednesday of this week in Loughan House. Please confirm time with Ken. Training will also continue to take place at 11.30am on Sunday mornings in the park. Dinner Dance
Our Annual Dinner Dance took place on Saturday night the 9th of December in the Carlton Hotel, Beeleck. A great night was had by everyone in atttendance. A big thank you to the Carlton Hotel and their staff for the wonderful meal provided and the hospitality shown to the club and its guests over the course of the night. Senior Player of the Year
Our Senior player of the year award went to midfielder Dermot O'Rourke. Dermot recovered from a bad facial early in the year but bravely return to the Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher colours to put in numerous sterling performances over the course of the season. Congratulations to Dermot on a very well desrved award.

Junior Player of the Year
Our Junior Player of the year award went to Gerry McMorrow. Gerry returned to action this year after recovering from a broken leg sustained while playing for the club 18 months ago. Gerry put in many brilliant performances at full back as our junior team marched to the top of Division 5 and secured promotion this season. Congrats also to Gerry on a very well desrved award.

Club Person of the Year
Our Club Person of the year award went to our Secretary, Maura McGourty. Maura puts in a lot of effort working at an orginisational level for the club and this award is very much deserved.

Dinner Dance
Just a reminder to anybody who has not purchased tickets and who wishes to do so, please contact Maura McGourty before Thursday night. Remember the bus will leave the village at 8p.m. via Kiltyclogher on Satusday night. A great nights entertainment is guaranteed.
